Biostimulators are modern aesthetic medicine treatments that activate the skin’s natural regenerative processes.

Biostimulators work differently from traditional fillers: the effect is not immediately visible as added volume, but develops gradually. By specifically activating the body’s own collagen and elastin production, the skin is stimulated to regenerate itself from the inside out. 

Over time, the skin can thus regain its firmness, elasticity, and radiance—for a fresh, harmonious, and natural-looking complexion.

Treatment with Sculptra® is recommended when the skin’s natural collagen production begins to decline. This typically occurs around the age of 30–35. From this point on, the skin slowly loses elasticity and firmness, and the first signs of sagging may appear.

During this phase, Sculptra® helps to activate the body’s own collagen production to improve skin structure over the long term. This slows down the skin’s aging process, keeping the skin firm and elastic for longer.

Sculptra® is suitable for those who wish to improve their skin quality over the long term and positively influence the skin’s aging process.

Indications include reduced skin elasticity and firmness, tired-looking, thin skin, a desire to improve skin texture, and a desire for natural-looking results with a slight increase in volume.

Sculptra® ist particularly suitable for treatments on the face, neck, décolletage, or hands. It stimulates the body’s own collagen production and can thus contributes to firmer, more elastic, and overall more vibrant skin.

Before receiving Sculptra Treatment, blood-thinning medications must be avoided prior to treatment, as they increase the risk of bruising. Treatment should be postponed in cases of acute infections, inflammation, or skin irritation in the treatment area.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding no aesthetic treatments should be applied.

No, the injection of biostimulators generally does not affect facial expressions.

Biostimulators work differently from muscle-relaxing treatments: they stimulate the body’s own collagen production and improve skin texture without affecting the activity of the facial muscles. As a result, natural facial expressions are fully preserved.

At our practice in Berlin, we have good experiences and positive results with poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra®) and polynucleotides (Philart Croma).

You can usually resume your normal daily activities immediately after treatment with biostimulators. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and typically requires no downtime.

Mild redness, swelling, and small bruises may temporarily occur at the injection sites and in the treated areas. These usually subside within a few hours to a few days.

For the first 24 hours after treatment, it is recommended to avoid sports and strenuous physical activity, as well as saunas, steam rooms, and intense heat.

The results of Sculptra® treatment develop gradually over several weeks to months, as the product stimulates the body’s own collagen production.

After completing a full course of treatment, the results typically last up to about 2 years, and in some cases even longer. How long the effects remain visible depends, among other factors, on age, skin quality, metabolism, and lifestyle.

For optimal results, 2–3 sessions are usually performed at intervals of 6–8 weeks. Afterward, a touch-up treatment after about 18–24 months may be beneficial to maintain collagen stimulation.

When used correctly, Sculptra® treatment is considered a safe method for stimulating collagen production. However, as with all injection treatments, side effects and rare complications may occur. These can include redness or infection at the injection sites, swelling, or minor bruising. Tenderness or mild pain in the treated area has also been reported. These symptoms usually subside within a few days.

A known risk of Sculptra® treatment is the formation of nodules or small hard lumps under the skin due to uneven distribution of the product. However, this is very rare at the currently recommended concentration used. You can help minimizing this risk by massaging the treated area several times a day for a few minutes, ideally following the “5 Rule”: 5 days, 5 times a day, for 5 minutes each time.

A Sculptra treatment costs 550 euros per session. Typically, 2–3 sessions are scheduled.
