The goal of autologous fat injection is to correct volume deficits.

Autologous fat can be harvested from the lower abdomen, hips, buttocks, inner thighs, or knees.

Basically, any area of the body can be treated with autologous fat injection, but it is most often used on the face. As an alternative to hyaluronic acid injections, autologous fat has proven to be especially effective.

When performed alone, autologous fat injection can be done on an outpatient basis, whereas in combination with an eyelid lift or a facelift it is always done in a clinic under general anesthesia. The fat is harvested from the lower abdomen, hips, buttocks, inner thighs, or knees, purified, and carefully injected into targeted areas of the face with fine cannulas, then massaged into place. Depending on the number of areas treated, the procedure lasts between 60 and 180 minutes. Unlike hyaluronic acid treatments, the results of autologous fat injection are long-lasting and also lead to a significant improvement in skin quality.

Oftentimes, a single session achieves the desired effect. In some cases, a second or third treatment may be needed after 8 to 12 weeks.

Depending on the scope of the procedure, autologous fat injection is either performed under local anesthesia in the operating room at Praxis Peyman Bamdad or under twilight sedation in a clinic.

Fat cells that have been injected react to weight gain in the same way as any other fat cells and grow accordingly.

The results of autologous fat injection last for several years.

In general, autologous fat injection is painless.

It’s important to intermittently cool the treated area, rest, and avoid physical exertion in the days after your treatment. For two weeks, avoid sun, sauna, and sports.

After an autologous fat injection, you will be socially presentable again after about one to two weeks. Bruising will no longer be visible and any swelling will have subsided.
