Liposuction

The result of liposuction is permanent.

In general, liposuction is done under general anesthesia.

Liposuction is generally performed as an outpatient procedure. Before surgery, the areas to be treated are marked. The fat removal is performed using the vibration technique (PAL-power assisted liposuction) using different sizes of cannulas. The procedure is finished by using very fine cannulas just beneath the skin for skin tightening and optimal conturing. 

After liposuction, you must wear a custom compression garment for six weeks. It is recommended to avoid sunbathing, sauna, heavy physical activity, and sports during this period.

Although a change in body shape will be noticeable immediately after liposuction, the final result can be expected no earlier than three months post-surgery.

Typical complications after liposuction include dimpling and irregularities, which, however, rarely occur in the hands of an experienced surgeon.  Christiane Kersten, a board-certified plastic and aesthetic surgeon, has successfully performed these procedures for decades. As with any surgery, wound healing problems and infections can occur. Bruising and swelling typically resolves within three weeks after the surgery. Postoperative pain is similar to sore muscles and typically disappears after about 14 days. Indurations (dense areas of tissue) may develop and will resolve over several weeks.

Depending on its elasticity, the skin will adjust to the new shape. In cases of significantly loose skin, an additional tightening surgery may be needed.

In principle, all areas with excess fatty tissue can be treated. Popular areas for liposuction include the abdomen, thighs (saddlebags), hips, waist, upper arms, and back. Liposuction for gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts) is also a popular option for men.
