Tanned skin increases the risk of blisters, redness, or permanent pigmentation disorders caused by treatment. Please avoid excessive sunbathing for four weeks before BBL™ treatment, and avoid using self-tanners for two weeks before. To avoid photoallergic or phototoxic reactions, you must also avoid taking medications that increase skin sensitivity to light for at least one week prior. These include some antibiotics (doxycycline, ciprofloxacin), anti-inflammatory painkillers such as diclofenac and ibuprofen, acne medications with the active ingredients tretinoin (Retin-A) or isotretinoin (Aknenormin, Ciscutan, Roaccutan), St. John’s Wort preparations, and many psychotropic drugs.

After a detailed analysis of your skin, the flash lamp treatment is performed on an outpatient basis at the Peyman Bamdad practice. A cooling contact gel is applied to the skin areas to be treated. Concentrated light pulses from the handpiece are emitted to the skin, while powerful filters restrict the effective wavelength to the desired spectrum. The sapphire glass applicator, which rests on your skin, is continuously cooled for optimal and comfortable temperature. The light pulses penetrate the skin’s surface and are absorbed by the target cells, turning into heat. This allows the light energy to be used with precision against rosacea, age spots and acne, while protecting the surface and surrounding tissue.

Depending on the size of the area to be treated, BBL™ treatment usually takes about 15 to 45 minutes. Depending on the chosen treatment type, several sessions at intervals of two to four weeks may be required to achieve the desired results.

No. Thanks to the application of a cooling gel beforehand or, if necessary, an effective numbing cream, treatment with BBL™ is virtually painless. Only minor sensations such as pricking, pulling, or tingling may be felt during treatment.

A mild warmth and treatment-related redness after a BBL™ session are harmless and generally disappear after a few hours. If more sessions are planned, it is important to avoid direct sunlight until the end of the entire treatment to reduce the risk of complications such as blistering or long-term pigmentation disorders. As the skin reacts very sensitively to UV rays post-treatment, treated areas must be protected with a high SPF sunscreen for four weeks.

Typically, you can return to your everyday activities immediately after a flash lamp session. Warmth and mild redness post-treatment are harmless and usually subside after a few hours. Make-up can also be reapplied right away. Depending on the number of sessions, you should avoid intense UV exposure until treatment is completed and apply a high SPF sunscreen if needed. Any dark spots that may appear after the treatment usually disappear within one to two weeks.

Treating couperose and rosacea with BBL™ involves coagulating the capillaries that cause the redness. Focused light pulses penetrate your skin and are absorbed by hemoglobin, converting them to heat. The increase in temperature in the capillaries causes them to coagulate, effectively removing the tiny veins while sparing the skin’s surface and surrounding tissue.

Initial improvements in the treated skin areas are visible a few days after BBL™ treatment. The final results become visible one to two weeks after the last session.

When performed by an experienced specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, flash lamp treatments are generally very well tolerated. Temporary risks include mild redness and swelling which subside after a short time. Rarely, mild burns can occur, causing blisters similar to sunburn. Cooling compresses and applying moisturizers can aid healing. Temporary pigmentation changes as darker spots or mild crusting may occur but are not permanent. The crust typically falls off within one to two weeks, revealing healthy skin.
