Breast Lift

A breast lift is an option for women of any age who suffer from sagging skin and decreasing firmness in their breasts. Frequent candidates include mothers who have breastfed. Significant weight loss can also result in a loss of firmness. A breast lift can restore your breast’s natural, beautiful shape.

During a breast lift, the gland and the nipple are raised, excess skin is removed, and the breast is reshaped. The operation takes place under general anesthesia during a short hospital stay and lasts about 120 minutes.

Today’s methods allow breast lifts to be performed with minimal scarring. Depending on the degree of sagging, an incision is made around the nipple, which in some cases is supplemented by a further vertical incision from the lower edge of the nipple to the inframammary fold.

A breast lift can be combined with an increase in volume or a reduction. For augmentation, silicone implants are used during the procedure. Shaping with your own fat is also possible. For reductions, excess tissue is removed and the breast is recontoured.

After a breast lift, a scar forms around the areola. In some cases, depending on the level of sagging, this is supplemented by a further scar, running vertically from the lower edge of the areola to the fold under the breast.

If the use of aspirin or other blood-thinning medication is not medically necessary, you should avoid taking them for two weeks before the breast lift. Otherwise, further steps should be individually discussed before the procedure.

After a breast lift, a special bra must be worn for six weeks to protect the stitches from tension. Physical rest is essential. Avoid sun, sauna, and sports for at least six weeks.

Drains are removed on the first or second day after surgery. Absorbable suture material is usually used and does not need to be removed.

The preliminary result of a breast lift is visible within a few days. Full healing and the final shape take three to six months. The result is permanent—except for major weight fluctuations or hormonal changes.

A breast lift performed by an experienced plastic and aesthetic surgeon is generally low in complications. As with any surgery, there are risks such as healing disorders, bleeding, or infection, but these are very rare. Redness, swelling, and bruising can occur but usually subside within a few days.

You will be socially presentable about seven to ten days after a breast lift. Avoid sports and strenuous activities for at least six weeks.
